I think that it is important for us to remember that Facebook is a networking tool open to the public. It is our responsiblity as students to monitor what is connected to us via the interenet. Facebook provides privacy settings but beyond these settings you must be responsible for how you are portrayed across the web.

the only problem with this site is that there is a license agreement that gives sole ownership of anything anyone puts up on the site to the people that own the site and then they allow you to use it. That's just skeezy.

I agree that social networking can hurt us more than help us. It has created a whole new way of doing background checks and a new breed of people online. Myspace 'creepers' and facebook 'stalkers.' At least the sites have wised up and allow you to cover your tracks a little.

Guess it's just a matter of realizing that only put up what you want to put up, and once you put it out there, it will always be out there.

I do not think this is fair practice while deciding whether or not a student should be admitted into a university. While we are adults at that age, we know what is appropriate/inappropriate to leave on the world wide web. This is private information.

I find this very interesting how one is able to simply use an online map to find different types of birds and the locations they have been spotted. This makes bird watching so much more efficient since one can now find out where a certain bird is located rather than having to take the time to bird watch at several different places to find it.

great post! the birdpost site is really amazing. i think this site is a very good example of a mashup, don't you think? it's taking in the data from all of the birdpost users and mashing it up with google maps data...fantastic! (and i'm not much of a birder, either.)
